(Yeah, sorry about the thread title, I borrowed it from Teh Right. *) Tony Wright in The Age describes the Libs' 'Our Plan' booklet as... ...a 50-page booklet bearing a photograph of his leadership team looking suitably optimistic, Malcolm Turnbull slightly out of focus at the far end. [My emph]
www.smh.com.au/opinion/politics/abbotts-paper-armour-20130330-2h0dg.html#ixzz2P6MrBcTS zOMG!!1!!! ABBOTTT Is TYRING TO ERAsSE HIS LEADERSHIp RIVAL FROM TEH PUBLIC CONCIOUSNES!!@#!!~ Oh, but wait... Andrew Robb, seated near Turnbull, is also slightly out of focus. And Warren Truss too, at the near end. So then, Wright may as well have just remarked on the poor choice of cover photo. But why would a serious political commentator bother making such an observation? Seriously, these uber-narratives indulged by the commentariat are a big part of why the bulk of the reading public are turning away from them. * Update: And fluffed the title with a typo. (The Education Revolution should have started etc.) Attachments:

"also slightly out of focus"
They're all a little bit out of focus. Does that mean they're all on borrowed-time, stalin-style?
I doubt it. I don't like abbott's chances in a cage-fight with julie bishop and joe hockey.
Nah. I think it's just a dob of vaseline on the lens - a bit of soft lighting, some saxophone. An appeal to the broken-hearted and love-sick. A rebranding, if you like. Like sands through the hour-glass ...

Turnbull looks photoshopped into the pic. Maybe he wasn't there that day?

Ignorance and laziness at The Age... It used to be called the 'Hell House': now it's about to become our most exclusive hotel.
That notoriety of the Salesian College at Rupertswood was a lot more recent than the 1920s (which was when the Salesians acquired the property). Try the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s...

Oh dear. The SMH goes with...
"Thinking pink to no avail as mother gives birth to 12th straight boy
"They had crossed their fingers for a girl and told friends to "think pink", but when their latest bundle of joy arrived he proved to be Jay and Teri Schwandt's 12th boy in a row."
As if "straight boy" weren't bad enough, do you know what "Schwandts or "Schwantz" means in German (or more particularly Yiddish-German)?
Rough translation - 'prick'.

Today Fairfax steps up it's anti-Rudd campaign.
The headlines -
"Court challenge to Labor's PNG refugee plan
Three years later, Kevin Rudd finds himself behind Julia Gillard
Fanbelt the latest failure for PM
How covert union stays disciplined (Sheehan on the Great Union Conspiracy)
Rudd's mission is to show us we were wrong
Rudd support less than Gillard in 2010
Rudd's PNG plan is being swamped, says Abbott"

That's it. I'm never going to soil myself by picking up an SMH ever again. They've been running a steady anti-ALP campaign ever since the election was announced. Today it's "Abbott not winning, Rudd is losing" and "Kevin Rudd becoming a joke." And they brazenly steal a phrase from the launch of the UK The Independent in 1986 - "Independent. Always'. Crap. I'd rather trust Patsy Cline (who is bloody fantastic BTW). www.youtube.com/watch?v=qvZjZettoAo

Paul Sheehan really is a hypocrite. He complains this morning about the angry left running a hate Abbott Facebook page. Blair echoes this with a piece about the loony left who can't face reality.
What they conveniently forget is the years of hate and vilification of Rudd, Gillard and the Greens from the right wing commentators and shock jocks. And they don't do irony apparently, as the comments of the Facebook page Sheehan bitches about are mostly taken from far-right commentators ('worst PM and Gubmint in history' was Bolt's line for years remember.)
They can dish it, but can't take it.

Posted at 2:15 is this rather puzzling story on the SMH web site.
"wins the 2013 Melbourne Cup . 2:15pm has won the 2013 Melbourne Cup"
They even have a picture!
Sadly at 2:30 someone realised their mistake and they pulled it.
Talking of the Melbourne Cup, why is 7 giving Tom Shithouse wall-to-wall coverage?
And why is Gai spelled that way, but pronounced Gay?
Shouldn't it be pronounced Guy, as in Thai?

Of a horse, one hopes.

I only just discovered this thread, A couple of weeks ago, say Nov 10, on the front page was 2 stories about houses. The bigger one, with a large pic, was about people in Winmalee, who are still putting their lives back together, it was school formal time and someone had donated dresses for girls to wear. Immediately next to it, in a column was an article "generation missing out" about people who were depressed because they had missed out repeatedly on buying a property in the over heated Sydney market. I don't see myself as a particularly sensitive person, but I saw immediately how crass and inappropriate this was.
