Hello, I used to post very, very occasionally as EKDV on PP, but it was my favorite blog and I lurked there every day. Looking forward to robust discussion and the calling out of BS in the media from you all!

Howdy. Another regular reader/non-poster from PP here as well. And I'm with murgatroyd: PP was one of my favourite blogs, I visited it every day and looked forward to the discussions. I still don't understand why Crikey closed Pure Poison despite it being a lively and popular blog, particularly compared to the remaining Crikey blogs. And, yes, I understand it was a great amount of work for Dave & Jeremy (et al prior) to having to read the media and to post regularly so much, much thanks for the old PPers. But thanks also to Jules for setting up the forum here and howdy again to all the PP people. So here's hope this forum takes off.

You know, intelligent media criticism aside, the most important thing about PP for me was that - even more so than the rest of Crikey - it provided proof of the existence of intelligent, free-thinking, compassionate Australians.
So I'm with Paul. I hope this takes off too.

Hello all, I'm back. I might offer a tad more about myself to try and kick things along a bit. I'm almost 50, I work as a scientist, I own a small farm in NSW and I really resent the MSM and what has become of the ABC. I don't mind an argument and dislike howard.b and police who are bullies even more than I dislike the MSM. I believe in a fair go for all, truth and honesty. It great to see a few recognisable names on here and I do hope that this site can mirror the type of postings on the open thread on the old PP. I found it a wealth of information that without the old PP I would never have come across. Cheers

Oh and I'm not really a female either, its just that I resent giving over information to anonymous sources and I always fill out those type things with absolute crud. No one is going to be better of for buying info that's auto-collected from me.

Hi everyone.
This is awesome. Its great to see so many members. And thanks to everyone for their thanks ... I hope everyone gets that this place is for them.
I may have set it up but thats not the big deal. Dave and jeremy did a great job with their posts at PP, as did the guest posters, like Craigy upthread. I'll never forget the guest post he wrote. But the thing that made PP, and probably made it alot easier for dave and jezza, was the community that developed and thrived in the comments, especially the open threads.
I didn't want to lose that, cos it was the comments, many of them by people who have joined, that really made a difference. Thats what I kept reading for. Not just the dynamics, the humour, angra's wide ranging tastes in music, also the really good info and criticism everyone added.
So any suggestions, ideas whatever, go for it - maybe I should start a suggestions thread.
I am not really that up on whats needed to admin a site like this either so I'm always up for advice and info, or suggestions on how to do things.
For example - Do we need Moderation?
I'm not moderating anything at the moment, and I'm not that keen to start .. but that'll probably have to change at some point. Unless people moderate themselves. (But not too much.)
Don't be shy about starting a thread with your opinion on any of that.
I've been offline all weekend - a mates 40th ... so i'm looking forward to seeing what everyone has posted in the other threads.

Jules - you're doing good! Guidelines are pretty fair. Some decent contributions so far. Expect some trolls and the occasional dickhead post from the likes of me. Just listening to Depeche Mode's original version of Personal Jesus. The song is by Martin Gore. The music vid's OK, but the performance not a patch on Johnny's cover. In fact I'll nominate Cash's American albums one of the greatest contributions to music in the last 20 years - up there with Arvo Pärt. video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4718254690005800677

There's also a really weird version of Personal Jesus by Marilyn Manson which uses subliminal images of GW Bush, Hitler, Stalin and others. See if you can spot them. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl6fyhZ0G5E
