Well I never...Herald Sun wrong June 28, 2012
RUPERT Murdoch's Herald Sun has been forced into an embarrassing backdown over its ''exclusive'' front page story yesterday declaring: ''Fines for double parking will soar more than 500 per cent.''
The paper published a retraction headed: ''Double parking fines won't rise by more than 500 per cent.''
The paper yesterday also retracted a story that claimed schoolchildren visiting Federal Parliament would no longer receive fruit treats and bottled water as a result of Wayne Swan's spending cuts. What next? -- Winter cold? Abbott negative?

Just saw this on Media Watch. Steve Lewis wrote the story on the school children being denied fruit. It was front page on the Tele according to MW. Media Watch spent some time defending Lewis. Well ok, suggesting he may have made a genuine mistake. Which is possible.
So while he probably didn't do this deliberately, you can see how the bias' he has, well appears to have (the Labour govt is dodgy or ideologically impure,) could have influenced him. Had he not been invested in an outcome* he may have taken the extra time to check the story with the relevant department. Its not a good look for him to have made such a public mistake in such a politically charged climate. Same goes for the Tele.
* I'm assuming he's invested in an outcome. The reason for this is that it seems he is. He may not be. It might just seem that way to observers.
