angra (on the blot thread): " I don't suppose Bolt has bothered to read this..." Reading is one thing. But comprehension and interpretation...? What is interesting is that, where before Christmas there was zero interest in the Australasian Antarctic Expedition 2013-2014, there now seem to be blog armies poring over the minutiae of blog and social media postings, youtubes, etc., from Turney and his companions. The objective seems unanimously to build a narrative about 'clueless/reckless/dishonest warmists'. For example, the latest over at WUWT is a 'theory' floated by Watts on behalf of a reader who questions whether Turney made it to Mertz Glacier as he said he did, or whether he was fabricating or just plain confused. Watts then urges 'caution' over interpreting the 'social media' record which may be incomplete - but seems happy enough to take the 'theory' for a trial canter on his blog. wattsupwiththat.com/2014/01/05/the-cli-tanic-spiritofmawson-hotsheet-for-sunday-january-5th/But central to the narrative is a blog entry written by a passenger, Janet Rice, who is a Greens senator-elect for Victoria... The third drama of the day is the one which is still unfolding. Because of the Argo mishap we got off late, and had one less vehicle to ferry people to and fro. I’m told the Captain was becoming rather definite late in the afternoon that we needed to get everyone back on board ASAP because of the coming weather and the ice closing in. As I write we are continuing to make extremely slow progress through what looks like a winter alpine snow field – it’s yet another surreal part of this journey that we are in a ship trying to barge our way through here! I’m sure the Captain would have been much happier if we had got away a few hours earlier. Maybe we would have made it through the worst before it consolidated as much as it has with the very cold south- easterly winds blowing the ice away from the coast, around and behind us as well as ahead. www.janetrice.com.au/?e=98#body-anchor Rice is referring to on-land excursions and activities which apparently caused delay in departure. That would appear prima facie to be an instance of bad planning/coordination of the kind that could cause serious problems in the harsh Antarctic environment. Whether or not those delays were forseeable or avoidable is immaterial, of course, as long as it feeds the 'recklessness' narrative. 'Warmists' do not merit any benefit of the doubt, because by definition they are stoopid and must be punished. Meanwhile over at Catallaxy, they're in a tiz about this "incredible scandal of scientific malpractice". There doesn't seem to be any explanation of what specifically constitutes the alleged 'malpractice' but, hey, the readers are primed for this narrative anyway. catallaxyfiles.com/2014/01/03/remember-the-akademic-shokalskiy/

What kind of idiots does Morrison take us for?
"Australian Immigration Minister Scott Morrison has refused to comment on reports an asylum seeker boat headed for Australia has been "driven'' back into Indonesian waters by the Australian navy.
There are conflicting accounts of when the boat or boats were allegedly turned back, with the Jakarta Post referring to an incident on Monday, while other reports say the turn-back happened shortly before Christmas."
Morisson says he won't comment about 'on-water activities'. But the Indonesian press are happy to.
What a moron.
