If you're a bit of a techo tragic, try Mighty Ships (Discovery, being repeated on 7).
My favourite is the one about the Newfoundland icebreaker, which actually has to do dances in the icy water to create enough commotion to break up the ice around a trapped ship. It even has air nozzles which blow water up into the surrounding ice to reduce friction. Plus it has the world's most powerful diesel-electric engines which have trillions of horsepower, and you can replace a busted cylinder assembly without stopping the engine! How the hell do they do that? A bit like changing a blown tyre on a car while it's still moving.

For a (very) mainstream alternative, last night we saw The Lone Ranger. I think it was done by the people who did pirates of the carribean . Johnny Depp plays Tonto as deadpan as can be. Some visual gags are Pythonesque in the humor, but it is carefully balanced. Anyway at 150mins it was not predictable while delivering all of the lone ranger memes. Recommended as a movie at the end of a long week.
