What has more stereotypes per second than anything? Sexual violence? Child exploitation? Midget-throwing? Gangsters? Gratuitous violence? And a brilliant bit of filmmaking. Check the photography - dolly movement through windows, multi-set pans and zooms, multi-scene action. (Also some bad dubbing and broken continuity - but hey, nobody's perfect). And a cast of hundreds. This movie had it all! Crap tap, brilliant tap, great music, and dialogue reeled off at 14 to the dozen. Just look at this 5 minutes of the main sequence. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ge8qktLangwHaven't enjoyed a musical so much since the Busby Berkeley routines with tap-dancing cockroaches in Joe's Apartment. Enjoy!

World Toilet Day is a serious UN initiative to improve the awareness of public hygiene. www.worldtoiletday.org/To bring it home, have you ever been stuck somewhere with no toilet? Or no toilet paper? Or when your finger sticks through the paper? (Yuck) Well spare a thought for half the world's population that don't have toilets as we known them. Did you know that one in three people do not have a safe, clean and private toilet? Most of those people live in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Yet the humble toilet can be a stepping stone to a healthy life, greater human dignity, freedom, equality between women, men, girls and boys, and finally, a catalyst to the development of communities and countries.

Willander is brilliant - both the original Swedish TV productions (on SBS) and the Kenneth Branagh versions (on ABC, orig. BBC). A bit like Columbo reinterpreted by Ingmar Bergman. This one is about and Anders Breivik-style killer motivated by erroneous press reports about 'foreigners' murdering a local farmer and his wife. Sounds frighteningly prescient to me. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tG1iBjxYUkk

Groucho, on proposing to two women at the same time,
First woman "Why that's bigamy!"
Groucho "Well thats big-o'-me too!"
Laugh or die.

Oh my God, River Song is the Doctor's daughter and Amy's baby!
Dr Who has amazed yet again. Just one question - does the Doctor have two penises (like his two hearts)?

You'll never see sheep or kiwis in the same light after watching Black Sheep - on TV a few nights ago.
A slash/horror/comedy with a great sense of humour. Imagine flocks of bloodthirsty man-eating sheep savaging the local community. There's even a farmer with an unhealthy relationship with a particularly attractive ewe, and a monstrous sheep/human hybrid who goes on the rampage.
Gotta admire the kiwis for taking the piss out of their own stereotypes.
Worth watching (maybe not if you're queasy about bloody sheep).

Watch The Sapphires, if you haven't already. It'll make you laugh and cry. And it has a great social message and brilliant performances and some awesome music.
Who says Australian film making is dead?

Not generally a fan of 10, but you gotta admit Elementary is pretty darn good, not least due to Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu. Nearly as good as Sherlock.
BTW - How DOES he come back from the dead after the Reichenbach fall?
