I'm reposting from Crikey, as I'm not sure many Bolt aficionados follow Ben Sandilands Aviation column. Media watch last night discovered reverse image search and made a big song and dance about how this means the media can’t just pixellate faces to abide by privacy laws anymore. But there’s another far more interesting role for reverse image seaching. You might remember that last year we (Ben Sandilands Crikey blog) exposed News Limited using fake photos to accompany stories about the Dash 8 plane crash and also the Rabaul Queen ship sinking – both in PNG. So while Holmes has a point about the legal implications, the media should be put on notice that it can’t use fake images anymore as it’s too easy to expose. It’s only taken Media Watch a year to catch up with your (Ben Sandilands) blog. Here are the original posts - blogs.crikey.com.au/planetalking/2012/02/04/what-is-it-with-news-and-a-policy-of-dishonesty-and-misrepresentation-in-papua-new-guinea/blogs.crikey.com.au/planetalking/2011/10/14/news-cheats-on-png-crash-photo/(It was me that found these using Tineye - but enough breast-beating)
