The 'Filers', or The 'Dredgers'?

I think we're in far enough now that we can start considering names for our very own home-grown alfoil crowd.

Deliberately aiming for something to evoke "truthers" and "birthers", I'd really like a fricative to start the second syllable. But nothing convenient leaps out of the mania-stream. "Dredgers" works on that level, but it's not really specific enough.

But "Filers" evokes the current mind-set nicely. Casting a jaded eye over the comments at the pull factor, I see that a lot of people have suddenly become very interested in the role of files at law firms. I suspect none of them have ever worked at a law firm, or know what they mean when they SAY "opening a file", but that doesn't matter. Because apart from a few conflicting recollections (ignoring the recollections of the actual company - they don't count unless they feed the conspiracy), the allegation (I have no idea if it's a fact) that gillard didn't "open a file" is, right now, the smoking gun.

It's the piece of information that a lot of over-caffeinated minds are poring over right now, in their mum's shed, in front of a big piece of cardboard they found. All of andrew's "stories" are there, probably with coded phrases alongside them. But right in the middle of that page, where all the arcs intersect, there are these words: No File!!!1!@.

This is our very own choose-your-own-reality internet-fueled adventure game. It's gone mainstream, I'm guessing, because the carbon tax scare campaign is hitting its use-by date, and it doesn't really look like the slipper enterprise is working out the way the boosters had hoped.

So there it is. I'm declaring them to be The Filers. If somebody can come up with something that sounds better, I'd love to hear it. Nothing THIS nuts should be allowed to go on without having a name. And the advantage of a moniker is that it'll be something we can refer to in years to come when the nuts have all moved on. When they fail to dredge up something to justify the wild, nonspecific and strangely vague non-accusations, the journalists pushing this thing will be, for all time, The Filers. Unless somebody comes up with something better.

Today I actually saw a post at the pull factor declaring that all the leftists who were posting their criticism of andrew's reasoning were just trying to stifle free speech.

These guys aren't like the rest of us.

'Dredgers' is catchy but perhaps too generic.

'Filers' is good. It could refer equally to something that ought to exist but doesn't, or something that may exist but may have been secreted away by (* suggestions welcome *).

'Gappers' or something like that is another possibility, denoting those crucial ~5 months between the PM's leaving S&G and working for Brumby, during which time she was spirited by aliens to a secret location in North Korea to attend totalitarian training.

Though I'm not sure whether the speculative speculation has moved on from The Gap. Maybe there'll be a schism between Filers and Gappers, with each camp accusing the other of being Splitters.

A big surprise it was, seriously I am not sure who or how and why the polls rise considering what has happened, I feel it could be alittle bit sus, if its legit then how is it possible?

"What has happened"? Why, Andy's had 4 posts in a row on the AWU/Wilson stuff. If that's not indicative of a national emergency, then nothing is.

Those poll results are obviously clear sign of a massive plot. Are there any former S&G Gillard allies now employed in positions of authority at Newspoll?

MoC, possible you may have at least one other high-profile follower. Mark Latham has noted the same parallels with the Birthers movement but christened our local variant as Brucers.

I have heard, but cannot confirm, that it has been insinuated that a person, who has not been named and currently works for Newspoll, attended a function at the same time as someone who knew a staffer in Gillard's office. If these allegations are true, Gillard will be finished. Again.

Hmm. I suspect it's unlikely - I imagine he'd have had to write that yesterday to meet deadlines and wot.

But I like "brucers" better than "filers". Good choice. I nominate "Brucers" ... until something better comes along.

I have worked in a law firm, (in IT), and the whole filing thing is just trivial. Some lawyers open new ones regularly other will have huge (unmanageable files) - also called "matters".
Often the decision to open a new file comes down to billing - if work done needs to be itemized separately, then a new 'file' should be opened, if not then a single file will do.

Re. Links/lunches with pollsters etc. I would like to put on the record at this time, that my father had lunch with Brian Burke (this would have been 1975).

Mark Latham has been busying himself dissecting some of the primary tenets of the Brucers. For example,

According to Thomas, if the relevant West Australian government agency had known that the association was designed “to help in the election of union officials, it would not have been registered. It would not have been eligible under the legislation that governed such associations.”

Strangely, for a so-called investigative journalist, he provided no corroborating material for this assertion. No legal advice. No extracts from the WA legislation. No departmental assessment.

To test Thomas’s claim, I contacted the Associations and Charities Branch of the WA Department of Commerce. Its officers informed me that under the Associations Incorporation Act 1987, “you can basically register anything as long as it’s not-for-profit”.

Indeed, Section 4 of the statute makes provision for associations with “political purposes”, thereby covering a wide range of election types. When I asked about fund-raising for trade union elections, I was told that “there should not be a prohibition on that”. Thomas’s final accusation against Gillard was, in fact, a fabrication.

The WA Commerce Dept's public website actually says an association may be formed for "political purposes".

Exactly. And those who bother to read the whole of the alleged application will see that it is indeed directed at category 4(1)(e) - "for political purposes". That's not assumed - it's in the application as being the relevant category.

One of the purposes of the association is also quite clearly

(Objects Of The Association 3(1)(a)):

To support and assist union officials and union members who are constributing to the adoption of the aims of the association and its policies.

That there covers a re-election, or "slush", fund.

There's no case to answer, IMHO. Latham is quite right about that. Certain folks might not _like_ what the association was purportedly set up to do, but it's not inconsistent with what gillard claimed, and it doesn't appear to have been illegal (what it was later used for, that's another thing)

Things seem to be returning to normal - bolta's spruiking fear about "syrians" today. The droogs know what that means (even if they don't bother to read the article to find out what the police have to say)
