A win for decency:Gillard singes Christian Lobby over 'offensive' gay remark
Prime Minister Julia Gillard has pulled out of speaking at the Australian Christian Lobby's national conference, after its leader suggested a homosexual "lifestyle" was more hazardous to health than smoking.
The lobby's managing director, Jim Wallace, made the claim in Tasmania yesterday during a debate on same-sex marriage.
His comments outraged gay rights activists, who called for Ms Gillard to distance herself from the group by withdrawing from its conference, which will be held in Canberra on October 5 and 6.
Ms Gillard today branded Mr Wallace's comment ''offensive'' and said she would not speak at the lobby's conference.
''To compare the health effects of smoking cigarettes with the many struggles gay and lesbian Australians endure in contemporary society is heartless and wrong,'' she said in a statement. It's long overdue, but thank goodness the pandering has come to an end (for now at least). Now I'll be interested to see if Abbott describes Gillard's change in direction as a 'LIE'. Also, I wouldn't be shocked to see AB jump to the defense of Jim Wallace, insisting that he's been 'verballed', and that this more evidence of the 'intolerant, authoritarian nature of teh left'.

I expect abbott will stay the heck away from it and let his stooges take care of it.
I'm dying to see how the trollumnists will split hairs and try to paint wallace as the injured party. They'll be up all night on this one.

Ah. He's been misquoted. It's really about the packaging. He's been misquoted - contrary to everything he's really being misquoted. It's about the packaging.
Because the gay industry totally packages gayness. They've got big billboards and signs and once you've tried it ... you're hooked for life, like it or not. They're just pushing it in the shops and petrol stations. Gayness in little brightly-coloured boxes.
He's just given an example about preschoolers(!) in the US getting sex-ed (anyone else starting to thing this is bull$@%#?) being told that the gay life is normal.
Oh, wow. Wow.
No. NO! I do NOT want this man silenced. That's not what I'm suggesting. I want him to just keep talking and talking and taking.

MoC - never trust anyone who seems to begin every answer with "NO, but..." and never allows an interviewer to finish a question and keeps repeating himself. Sounds like the mantle of Steve Fielding has miraculously landed on him (warning - religious reference) www.youtube.com/watch?v=ewDT-r00eCU

It's hilarious isn't it - "I wasn't comparing homosexuality and smoking! I was illustrating their similarities and differences!"

Looks like AB isn't going to touch this one. Maybe he saw Jim stumbling through that ABC interview and thought he wouldn't be able to save him - he's in too deep.
