Just so you can keep up with the best of our press, check out some recent headlines. I'm sure you can add more.
Chef says he 'slowly cooked' wife's body in boiling water (LA. Makes a nice Ramen stock I'm told. re. Tampopo)
Japanese cook serves genitals for dinner (well Japan I think as he was Japanese. And he was a tranny performance artist. Ah 'mountain oysters'!)
Pack of dogs kill teen 'for pie' (in the UK. But probably a 4'n'20)
What's Hugh Hefner's 'number'? (US. Answer - at least 1,000 at last count. Not bad for 86)
Outlaw drunks in pubs (WA - police suggestion. Nothing more than that.)
Nude nun man rampages through street (Melbourne - what do you expect?)
Doctor 'may have killed 300' (in Brazil. 'may have' been the operative phrase)
Fisherman hooks two headed shark (Florida. So obviously relevant to residents of Canberra.)

"check out some recent headlines."
I'm sorry, but I don't see what any of those have to do with JOOLIAR WORST GVRENMENT EVAR!!!i!
Every time hugh hefner's miserable little mug gets in the news with some new totally riveting tidbit of news about his sex life, he becomes more and more a cautionary tale. It's possible that he's slept with at least a few of the women he names (if nobody's denied it, I suggest that has more to do with contractual obligations than any measure of reality), but let's face it ... they WERE on the payroll. Buying sex with the proceeds of porn is not any measure of success, so could the media please stop paying attention to that miserable old creep?

" JOOLIAR WORST GVRENMENT EVAR!!!i!" That's certainly the view from Planet Janet. www.theaustralian.com.au/opinion/columnists/gillards-selfish-hold-on-high-office-is-destroying-the-labor-brand/story-e6frg7bo-1226607107341Janet argues that Gillard's vaunted "toughness" is in reality "selfishness" which is "destroying the Labor brand" etc. etc. etc. However, Janet fails to nominate what course Gillard should take, as the duly elected leader of parliamentary Labor. Presumably it involves calling an immediate election, but then Janet would lean that way, wouldn't she? After all, as a paid Murdoch shill she's in the business of regime change. This is all standard fare among the Limited News commentariat. But on Planet Janet the motif of unyielding tenacity selfishness somehow, astonishingly, serves as the basis for a segue to this... These leaders [Hawke, Keating, Howard] followed in the tradition of rational selfishness best described by philosopher Ayn Rand. It's productive, rather than destructive self-interest, that caters to something bigger than a person's ego. ...
At present rates, come September 15, the "hard working" Gillard will have plenty of time to read Atlas Shrugged, Rand's most famous treatise about selfishness that is rational and productive rather than Gillard's irrational, destructive variety. See? - it's a treatise, and not at all a bad novel about tawdry anti-heroes. Set in a fictitious, dystopic America (as distinct from the real dystopic America), the novel celebrates the selfishness of a bunch of individualistic capitalists who decide to revolt against the supposed tyranny of the collective - essentially by forming a collective and going on strike. The conceit of the premise is that Rand's protagonists are the only individuals in America with any kind of initiative, and consequently in their absence America comes to a standstill. Of course, in Rand's set-piece dystopia that's precisely what happens. Naturally, on Planet Janet all that guff somehow illuminates the putative destruction of the Labor brand by the GillardGillardGillard. But what's really illuminating is Janet's unabashed boosting of and identification with an overwrought, tendentious worldview.

"Janet argues ..."
... whatever she's paid to argue.
Bottom line - gillard inherited a minority government, a bunch of faithless MPs and the majority of the nation's press running a concerted, dishonest, hysterical campaign against her. The fact that she's managed to actually achieve anything at all while maintaining an economy that's the envy of the world and gradually bringing down the budget deficit is actually pretty impressive.
If gillard had given in to rudd, it'd have been an indicator of some sort of character flaw, nay, evil.
If rudd had challenged and won, it'd have been an indicator of some sort of character flaw, nay, evil.
If she'd left the ministry as it was, after a staggering political %!$^-up by those involved, she'd have been declared weak and desperate - it'd have been an indicator of some sort of character flaw, nay, evil.
If she turfed out the bozos who arranged last week's unbelievably stupid act of party-political seppuku ... well, she did that ... and guess what? That's right - it's an indicator of some sort of character flaw, nay, evil.
I don't think it matters much what gillard does. The coverage now is down to the level of just hurling abuse. And it's working, too.
What a fine profession journalism has become.

"The coverage now..."
Yes, it's simply deranged.
Wouldn't argue with anything you've said there.
